As late as 10 May 2000 the site described Ananova as "in the final stages of beta trials" and, on its front page, said "there are now only hours to go before Ananova... makes her debut," meaning her live public operation had not yet begun even three weeks after the announced 19 April date. By 20 May 2000, the site was fully operational, delivering real same-day news, including a story on Cherie Blair giving birth that matches the confirmed historical date. Taken together, the operator's own pages document a launch that slipped from its announced date by roughly a month, a detail the "world's first" framing in PA's marketing tends to obscure.

Character versus company

PA New Media's own site also wrote extensively in Ananova's invented voice, describing her as "programmed as 28 years old, 5ft 8ins tall," with a personality that finds human behaviour "amusing, often bewildering, but always fascinating." That character copy is PA New Media's marketing material, not an independent voice; the operator chose to give a text-to-speech news product a fictional biography and personality traits as a presentation layer over what its own "About" page frames as automated content technology built for syndication into "dynamic content solutions for interactive media."
