The persona
UneeQ is a New Zealand-founded software company that sells 'Digital Human OS,' a toolkit for building interactive, talking on-screen characters that brands and institutions deploy on their own sites and kiosks. Any 'digital human' built on the platform, such as the airline character Sama that UneeQ's own materials mention for Qatar Airways, is a client-branded product built with UneeQ's tools, not an independent entity; UneeQ is the technology vendor, and the deploying organisation is the operator of any given character.
What the documents establish
UneeQ's own Digital Human OS product page, retrieved 16 September 2026, states the platform is 'LLM-agnostic,' able to connect to 'OpenAI's GPT models, Anthropic's Claude, Google's Gemini' or a client's own trained models, and that customers 'bring the brain and the content' while UneeQ 'provides the body and the nervous system': an animation system branded Synanim, speech described as covering '70+ languages,' and deployment across web, mobile, kiosk and holographic formats. The same page states the product is 'SOC 2 Type II certified and GDPR compliant.' UneeQ's separate responsible-AI page adds a cited figure from its own research that '40%' of surveyed customers 'admit to having been duped by an AI-generated person,' an UneeQ-reported statistic rather than an independently audited one.
Character versus company
UneeQ's responsible-AI page states a design rule directly relevant to persona disclosure: 'the digital humans we design should never try to convince people they are real human beings,' citing 'the use of CGI over deepfakes' and 'verbal disclosure in conversation' as the standard it sets for itself and, by extension, for clients building on its platform. That is a policy UneeQ states about its own design practice, not a guarantee about how every deploying brand configures a given character; the platform page is explicit that clients supply the business logic and content a character delivers.
What to watch
Because Digital Human OS is licensed to many different brands, any specific claim about a named client's results (engagement rates, satisfaction scores) is that client's or UneeQ's own reported figure, not an independently verified outcome, and should be read as such if it surfaces in coverage of a particular deployment.
- Does a given brand's digital human disclose, in UneeQ's stated terms, that the user is talking with an AI system?
- Whose claim is being repeated when a character's engagement or satisfaction figures are cited: UneeQ's, the client's, or an independent auditor's?
- What does the client's own account of a UneeQ-built persona add to or contradict UneeQ's platform documentation?
UneeQ's documentation is clear that it sells infrastructure, not a single persona, and it states a transparency principle for its own designs; whether any particular branded deployment follows that principle is a separate, deployment-specific question the platform pages alone do not answer.
