Name the three common uses

Organic publication means the character or brand posts content to its normal account without buying distribution for that placement. Authorized amplification uses an existing post through a platform's creator-ad mechanism. Asset licensing gives a buyer files it may upload, edit or place elsewhere. These uses can overlap, but none should be assumed from the delivery of a rendered file.

For a virtual character, the distinction also protects continuity. An operator may accept the original caption and edit but reject a recut that changes the character's voice. A buyer may need paid reach but no editable model. Put the intended use in the statement of work before discussing a single all-in fee.

Source record

Platform permission is specific

TikTok says Spark Ads can publish from a brand's own account or use another creator's organic post with authorization. It also says paid engagement is attributed to the organic post. Those features explain why a buyer may value authorization differently from a duplicate uploaded ad.

TikTok's separate Identity documentation distinguishes a linked business account from another creator's authorized account or post. It says ads using the latter identity can use only posts that creator authorized. The platform control is specific to an account or post; it does not, by itself, define the parties' complete commercial relationship or rights outside the product.

Practical application

Build a scope matrix before pricing

Create rows for the hero film, cut-downs, stills, captions, voice track, editable project and character model. Create columns for the character's feed, the brand's feed, partnership or Spark ads, brand-uploaded ads, websites, retailer pages, email and out-of-home. In each cell write granted, excluded or quote required.

Add territory, start date, duration, spend ceiling if relevant, edit permissions, account identity and renewal process. Define whether comments remain on the original post and who moderates them. State whether the buyer can translate text, replace audio, crop the face, combine the character with other endorsements or make synthetic variants. Silence is not a usable production rule.

Editorial analysis

Price the operating burden, not only reach

Paid use can extend review, moderation and reputational exposure after the organic posting window. It may require account authorization, replacement exports, claim updates and availability when an ad is paused. Estimate those tasks separately from production. The fee structure might combine creation, a defined organic posting service, a paid-use license and optional operator support.

Do not invent a multiplier from follower count. Use the actual media term, territories, exclusivity, expected support and opportunity cost. If the character cannot work with a competing category for three months, identify the category precisely and model the work being declined. That estimate is negotiation input, not market fact.

Practical application

End access deliberately

Maintain an authorization register with post ID, advertiser account, platform, approver, permitted dates and revocation step. Seven days before expiry, ask whether the brand will stop, renew or replace the ad. Capture the final status and confirm what remains public organically.

A takedown clause should cover expired claims, product recalls, character redesigns and disclosure failures. Platform revocation may stop one ad path without deleting copies already delivered elsewhere, so the contract and asset register must describe both. This guide cannot determine whether a particular agreement grants those remedies.
