The persona

Rozy, styled 'Oh Rozy' in Korean, is a virtual human created by the Seoul studio Sidus Studio X. Its chief executive, Baek Seung-yeop, describes her design in an on-record interview: her face was built from a concept rather than scanned from a real model, a process that took about six months, with roughly 800 facial expressions prepared for a wider emotional range than earlier company work. Sidus Studio X ran her Instagram account for about four months without disclosing she was virtual, then disclosed it once her following reached roughly 12,000, according to Baek. By the time Shinhan Life featured her, Rozy already carried an established, recently revealed identity as a studio product.

What the documents establish

Shinhan Life's own YouTube channel published a 30-second spot titled 'Adding surprise to life' on 30 June 2021, introducing its refreshed brand identity. A month later, the same channel posted a dance-challenge promotion tying Rozy's choreography to a 'CF,' a commercial film, running 28 July-27 August 2021. Neither video's description states outright that Rozy is computer-generated; that disclosure comes from a separate document, an MBC News interview with Baek broadcast 16 September 2021, in which he confirms Sidus Studio X plans, manages and profits from Rozy's output, and describes compositing her digital face onto a human dancer's body for the televised choreography.

Character versus company

Shinhan Life's ad presents Rozy as a lead performer with her own dance and persona; Sidus Studio X's interview describes the mechanics behind it: a real dancer's body, a separately designed digital face, and a company deciding when and how to reveal the arrangement. Baek states plainly that the studio withheld Rozy's virtual status at first and disclosed it only once her audience had grown, a sequencing decision made by the operator, not by Rozy as a character. Any claim about the campaign's reach or Rozy's earnings belongs to Sidus Studio X's own account in that interview, including its estimate of the year's revenue, and should be read as the operator's figure rather than an audited one.

What to watch

The interview is a broadcast conversation with the studio's chief executive, not a written statement from Shinhan Life about its own disclosure practices; a reader wanting the insurer's side would need a document it published itself. It is also worth tracking whether Sidus Studio X's own site, unreachable now, republishes Baek's claims in a form that can be checked against the broadcast.

  • Did Shinhan Life's own marketing materials disclose Rozy's status, or did that come only from her operator, elsewhere?
  • What does compositing a 'digital double' mean in practice, and how much of the performance is a real body wearing a digital face?
  • When an operator states a specific revenue figure for a persona, what would independent verification require?

The ad and the interview describe two different things: a finished commercial built around Rozy's face and movement, and a studio executive's own account of how that face and movement were made and monetised. Keeping the two apart is the more useful discipline than asking whether the ad itself was somehow dishonest.
